Bridging the Gap: Building Sustainable Access to Horse Equipment in Ghana

Our mission with Bridging the Gap is to work towards a more sustainable future for horses and the people working with them in Ghana.

And one important part of that is something very practical:

Sustainable access to horse equipment.

We don’t want access to good equipment to depend on luck or on what happens to be available at the time. We want to build systems and relationships that make access easier and more consistent over time.

That is why we have been continuously growing our international network.

Our international partners are making things possible that we simply couldn’t do alone — and recently, we got to see exactly what that can look like.

One shipment. A lot of impact.

A while ago, we received a shipment of horse equipment that our international network sent to us here in Ghana.

It included around:

5 saddle pads • 20 halters • 4 lead ropes • 2 belly bands • 5 bridles • 2 sacks of grooming equipment • and other horse and stable equipment

Once everything arrived, we started sharing the equipment across the horse community we already work with.

Our three partner stables each received equipment packages, including saddle pads, halters, grooming brushes and grooming sets, as well as other useful items from the shipment.

But we didn’t stop with our immediate partners.

We were able to extend the support to two additional stables, and packages are currently being prepared for another two.

That means this one shipment is reaching:

7 STABLES

AROUND 45 HORSES

AROUND 15 PEOPLE WORKING WITH THOSE HORSES

And that is exactly the kind of impact we want Bridging the Gap to create.

Building something that lasts

For us, Bridging the Gap was never supposed to be about doing something once and moving on.

We are looking at the gaps within Ghana’s equestrian industry and asking:

What can we build that will still be useful tomorrow?

With equipment, that means creating a network that allows us to continuously improve access — not only for ourselves or one stable, but for the wider horse community.

And equipment is only one part of the picture.

We’re also working on education, horse nutrition, access to supplements, veterinary resources and better connections between the people working with horses in Ghana.

The goal is not to fix everything overnight.

The goal is to keep building.

Our network is growing

The impact of this shipment shows us just how much becomes possible when people work together.

Our partners in Ghana help us understand what is actually needed on the ground.

Our international network helps us access resources and opportunities beyond Ghana.

And Bridging the Gap connects those pieces.

Now we’re working on expanding that network further and sourcing the next round of equipment.

If you’re an equestrian company, organisation, stable, professional or individual and you see a way you could work with us, we’d love to hear from you.

Maybe you have equipment.

Maybe you have expertise.

Maybe you have connections.

Maybe you have an idea we haven’t thought of yet.

Talk to us.

Because a more sustainable future for Ghana’s horses isn’t going to be built by one person, one stable or one organisation.

It’s going to be built by a network.
