Bridging the Gap: An Afternoon with the Compton Cowboys & The Good Tree Girls

One of the really special moments from the Compton Cowboys’ time in Ghana was a youth workshop they asked us to help organize.
They didn’t want something formal.
They wanted something real.
So we reached out to The Good Tree in Teshie — an NGO that supports and works closely with girls in the community — and invited them to join us for an afternoon with the Cowboys and the horses.
And they came.
In the heat, in their cowboy hats, curious and excited.
They started touching the horses more calmly.
Standing taller.
Trusting themselves a bit more.
By the end of the afternoon, the energy was different.
More grounded. More confident. More connected.
Why Moments Like This Matter
This is the kind of work that feels very aligned with what we’re building.
Not big shows.
Not performances.
Just real connection — between young people, horses, and possibility.
When girls from Teshie meet Black cowboys from Compton, it does something simple and powerful:
It expands what feels possible.
And that’s enough reason to keep doing this.
Thank You
Thank you to:
• The Compton Cowboys for showing up with so much heart https://comptoncowboys.com
• The Good Tree for trusting us with their girls
• And the girls — for their openness and courage
This is what Bridging the Gap looks like on the ground.
Quietly powerful.
Human.
And real.
