Accra, the capital of Ghana, is home to over 400 horses. Yet despite their numbers, these horses face systemic challenges: there are no specialized shops, very few veterinarians trained in equine care, and access to medications is limited and expensive. These horses are not neglected by choice — the system has simply forgotten them.
At Horse Riding XP Ghana, our mission goes far beyond riding lessons. We are building a community that values, respects, and cares for horses. We want every horse to live in safety and comfort, and we want the people around them to understand the value of their lives.
What We Do & Have Achieved
Our work focuses on empowerment and education, creating a sustainable horse culture in Ghana:
Education & Training: We train riders, apprentices, and caretakers, teaching practical skills, safety, and horse welfare.
Notfallhilfe & Emergency Kits: We provide tools and resources to respond quickly when accidents or health issues occur.
Network Building: We’ve established an online network of veterinarians and professionals who can advise and support our community.
Ongoing Programs: Free deworming rounds, emergency first response for injured horses, and rescues of horses in urgent need.
Our goal is to create a strong, knowledgeable, and responsible horse community that can thrive, even in the absence of traditional infrastructure.
Celebrating Culture & Heritage
At Horse Riding XP Ghana, our work is deeply rooted in the rich equestrian culture and heritage of Ghana. We are actively researching traditional horse practices, stories, and the historical significance of horses, and we prioritize projects that strengthen this cultural connection. By preserving and highlighting this heritage, we ensure that horse care and education are not only practical, but also anchored in identity, history, and community values.
Looking Ahead: Our Goals for 2026
In 2026, we aim to expand and deepen our impact across Ghana’s horse community:
Emergency Kits: Provide one emergency kit for every horse in Accra, empowering caretakers to act quickly in urgent situations.
Education & Training: Continue training riders, apprentices, and community members in horse welfare, safety, and responsible care.
Community Growth: Build a strong, connected network of horse owners, riders, and enthusiasts sharing knowledge and resources.
Local Resources: Increase access to tools, supplements, and equipment to make horse care safer, easier, and more sustainable.
Global Connections: Link Ghana’s horse community with international networks, Black equestrian initiatives, and supportive partners for mentorship and collaboration.
Heritage Integration: Continue to research, document, and incorporate Ghanaian equestrian culture into programs and projects.
Through these steps, we aim to transform the horse ecosystem in Ghana, ensuring that horses are respected, cared for, and valued, and that people recognize the importance of stewardship, learning, and cultural connection.
How You Can Help
Your support directly strengthens this system. You can help by donating:
Hoof care tools (hoof picks, files, nippers, knives)
Grooming items (brushes, sponges)
Other horse-related items that help with learning, care, and emergency response
All contributions are used to fund emergency kits, training, and community programs, ensuring that your support has a tangible and lasting impact.
Together, we can bridge the gap for horses in Accra — empowering both animals and people, creating a culture of care and respect, and building a sustainable horse community for the future.
